Guided
Imagery and Music Sessions
with
Linda Keiser Mardis
Guided
Imagery and Music (GIM) sessions provide an individual the
opportunity to deepen his/her connection to the imaginal realm;
to tap into creativity; to seek healing images; to enhance
a relationship to music; to evoke inner wisdom; to heighten
a sense of well-being; to promote psychological and spiritual
growth; and to explore the many levels of consciousness
In
a typical GIM session, the individual and the facilitator
begin to build their rapport through a preliminary conversation
about expectations, goals, current and/or past personal history.
The individual is then invited to recline on a comfortable
mat, couch, or in a comfortable reclining chair. The facilitator
provides relaxation and focusing suggestions to assist the
individual into a relaxed state. The facilitator selects an
appropriate music program and starts the music. The individual
listens to the music in a very focused way and allows his/her
imagination to become active in response to the music. The
individual verbalizes the many types of images which s/he
senses, and the facilitator responds with supportive and resonant
comments. At the end of the music program, the facilitator
helps the individual return from the relaxed state, and together
they begin to reflect on the nature of the session experiences,
and to further the progress of integration.
If,
after an introductory session, an individual feels that GIM
is a resonant method for his/her self-exploration, s/he is
encouraged to book a series of sessions in order to pursue
mutually recognized therapeutic goals.
